What is a metal-free dental implant?

A metal-free dental implant is made entirely from zirconia (also called ceramic or zirconium oxide) instead of titanium. It replaces a missing tooth root the same way a titanium implant does, but contains no metal at all – which is why patients with metal sensitivities, or those who simply prefer not to have metal in their body, choose it. Zirconia is white, so it doesn’t show a grey shadow at the gumline the way titanium sometimes can.

It is not automatically the right choice for every case – your surgeon will confirm suitability during your consultation.

When zirconia isn't the right choice:

Cases needing a two-piece implant for angle correction, some cases with very limited bone volume where a wider range of implant geometries is needed, or when a patient’s clinical history makes titanium the more established, lower-risk option. Your surgeon will tell you if that’s your case — not after treatment starts, at the consultation.

Full-Arch Ceramic Rehabilitation

Can All-on-4 or All-on-6 be done with ceramic implants?

All-on-4 and All-on-6 are techniques designed for titanium implants, and they don’t translate directly to ceramic. For a full ceramic arch, we take a different approach: 6 to 8 implants, with the final restoration split into smaller sections, each shaped for its part of the mouth.

The result is designed to be just as stable and functional as a titanium full-arch restoration – without the grey shadow a titanium framework can sometimes show through thin gum tissue, and completely metal-free. Ask at your consultation whether a full ceramic arch fits your case.

The One-Surgery Protocol - for complex or revision cases

Some patients don’t arrive with a simple missing tooth. They arrive with an infected or compromised tooth that needs removing, an old metal implant, bridge, or denture that’s failing, or bone that needs rebuilding before any implant can go in – sometimes more than one of these at once.

The One-Surgery Protocol starts with a plan, not a procedure – your case is mapped digitally before anything is touched. Where that plan allows it, we then combine into one surgical session what would otherwise mean several separate ones: tooth extraction, infection cleaning, removal of an old metal bridge, denture, or failing implant, bone repair or augmentation, laser treatment, and placement of the new ceramic implant, with an immediate provisional tooth when your case allows it – instead of spacing each step across separate appointments months apart.

Significant infection or major bone loss can mean staging one or more steps first. Your surgeon confirms exactly what applies to your case at the video consultation – before you travel, not after.

What actually happens, step by step

How Treatment Works for International Patients

Video consultation with your doctor.

Send photos or a recent X-ray/CBCT if you have one. Dr. Ashraf or Dr. Briahnă reviews your case directly — not a triage call with a coordinator.

First visit to Bucharest.

Clinical exam, imaging if needed, making small adjustments to the treatment plan if needed, and - where the case allows - implant placement in the same visit.

Healing period.

The implant integrates with the bone before it can carry a permanent crown — typically three to four months, up to six months if significant bone augmentation was needed alongside the implant.

Second visit for the final crown

Long-term follow-up.

Treatment doesn't end when you fly home. We check in with you periodically — by video or message — to make sure the implant and crown are settling in well, for as long as you need it.
